My Word Coach for the Nintendo Wii Game Review

Simply put, this game is a must-have if you are an ‘edutainment’ game fan. For all those who are literally at a “loss of words” and seem to be learning nothing from those dead old books, My Word Coach is a blessing in disguise. The game belongs to the puzzle genre and has been published and developed by Ubi soft.

My Word Coach is a challenging and fun game that helps you improve your vocabulary by the means of various exercises and activities. The game got its inspiration from the research on vocabulary accquisiton, going on at the University of Quebec. It offers brain stimulating exercises like vocabulary definition, word recognition and spelling challenges. It includes 16,800 words from the Cambridge Advanced Learner’s Dictionary.

As it involves working with words, visual clarity is of utmost importance. The graphics of the game fulfill your basic minimum requirement. The animated instructor is playful and large. The words are legible, big and prominent. To please your auditory senses, the music is mild but becomes rather jarring in some instances. You are given a choice of four coaches to pick from with their different voices ranging from commanding to soothing.

As regards the control options, the Wiimote works without the Nunchuk in the game. Most exercises require the usage of only the A or B buttons, pretty much standard. To perform the tilt function in certain instances, you do with the Wiimote what you would essentially do with a doorknob. Simple. The Wiimote has been well implemented and is extremely responsive. With its multiplayer options and hundreds of words to learn, this game manages to hold your interest however simplistic it might seem. Its can be yours for $19.99.
