Brunswick Pro Bowling: Beware a Slippery Remote

One of the most enjoyable aspects of bowling is the cheesy dinginess of most bowling alleys, complete with outdated music and tall necks. Sure some alleys are updated, shiny places where high school kids feel safe but the whole experience is more fun when the jukebox plays C & W and everyone is drinking Budweiser out of the bottle. Brunswick Pro Bowling has all the bowling parts but none of the atmosphere.

Bowling is the perfect fit for Wii technology with arm movements mirroring the game play. In Brunswick Pro Bowling, the action on the screen doesn’t quite match your remote moves but after a little break-in period, you will be throwing strikes with the best of them. As the game progresses, you gather experience with the different lanes and how to gauge your swings. In addition, you garner equipment and other accouterments of bowling, only adding to the fun. With experience, you can increase arm strength and accuracy all the while learning more about what works and what doesn’t.

However what Brunswick Pro Bowling misses is the surrounding atmosphere of a real bowling alley. Sound effects are laughable in their unbelievability and sparse in their frequency. You feel as if you are, well, in your living room, swinging your arm and trying to retain your grip on the remote. Maybe you should have stuck with Wii Bowling from Wii Sports, an infinitely better fit for the real bowling enthusiast.
